“One of the few blessings of living in an age of anxiety is that we are forced to become aware of ourselves.”
― Rollo May, 1953

I’m from Asheville, in my early 40’s, with five years of experience being a clinician. I like to think and talk about questions. It seems like our world produces more questions than answers, so I’m glad I’m in the right place.

I’d like to help answer the two biggest questions in anyone’s life: why do I feel this way and what do I do about it. I specialize in working with substance abuse, men’s mental health (however you define yourself), ADHD, and those on the Autism Spectrum.

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist in North Carolina. The big other (in Lacanian terms) is everything that isn’t you. The little other is the reflection of what you want from it. The middle other is… something for us to figure out. It’s not a clinical term; it’s a strange thought.

Existential Therapy and its questions:

  • Now what?

  • Why should I care?

  • How can I keep going?

  • What do I want?

  • What do I value?

Psychodynamic Therapy and its questions:

  • Why did I do that?

  • Why do I think like this?

  • Why don’t I make sense to me?

  • How did they effect me?

  • What do I want?

Narrative Therapy and its questions:

  • What stories do I tell myself?

  • What stories did they tell me and why did I believe them?

  • What story do I want to tell next?

  • Where did this story come from?

I also work with CBT, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Narrative Exposure Therapy (for PTSD). I have experience with work in an inpatient rehabilitation setting and enjoy working with those struggling with substance / behavioral addiction. I like talking about the big picture, philosophy, values, beliefs, and things you can’t put into words.

I like to write about psychology, so here’s a blog.
